Carol June Strickland, Ph.D., R.N., 66, of Swainsboro, died on October 22, 2022, after a respiratory illness. A memorial service to celebrate her life and memories of was held online Sunday, November 13, at 3 p.m. The event included a brief slideshow of moments in Carol’s life and a ceremony by the Nurses Honor Guard of Georgia, which can be seen at caroljunestrickland.com
Carol was born November 6, 1955, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to the late Luther and Miriam Whitaker. She graduated from the University of Rochester where she completed her Ph.D. in Psychiatric Nursing. Carol had a private practice in New York and taught in the nursing and graduate (FNP) programs for the University of Rochester and Georgia Southern University for decades. She also served as Director of Nursing Research at Georgia Southern University. Mrs. Strickland is preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Tom, Glenn, and Jeff.
Mrs. Strickland is survived by her beloved husband, David Strickland; her loving son, Jordan Cornwell; and her cherished stepdaughter, Elisabeth Joy Strickland.
