Calvary Methodist celebrates International Women’s Day

In conjunction with International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, the ladies of Calvary Methodist Church celebrated by conducting their morning worship services.

Calvary Methodist Women have a long history of service to their church family, the community and the world. As a Global Methodist Church since July 1, 2023, the group now focuses on local missions for their church family and the community.

The purpose of the organization is to be a community of women that know God and always serve Jesus Christ in all they do. They strive to develop a creative and supportive fellowship that turns faith, hope and love into action.

A portion of their missions focus on providing support for local organizations like The Sunshine House Children’s Advocacy Center, Herrington Homestead, a Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Home, Weekend Blessings and three local food banks. They also serve their church family by providing food for times of bereavement and various special church functions.

The group was honored to have Mrs. Elizabeth Gilmer as their guest speaker. Elizabeth’s courage and faith during a serious health battle is a true inspiration to women everywhere. In addition, with her experience as a community leader, former banker and college administrator and as a current adjunct professor at Brewton Parker Christian University as well as director of the Summertown Food Pantry, it’s easy to see Elizabeth is committed to serving her fellow man. Elizabeth encouraged all of us to call upon Biblical truths as we respond to a broken world.
