Burton speaks to Fall Line Chapter

The Fall Line Chapter Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held their monthly meeting Tuesday night, May 12, at the Chamber of Commerce Building in Sandersville at 7 p.m. With President Sandy Mercer presiding, we had eight in attendance. President Sandy led us in the Pledge to the U.S. Flag, the Pledge to the Sons of the American Revolution and then he asked Chaplain Ken Lindsey to say the invocation. President Sandy then asked the East Fall Line Region Vice President Dess Smith III to introduce the speaker, Compatriot Allen Burton from the Washington Wilkes Chapter in Washington. Allen's presentation was on "Banister Tarleton". President Sandy then called on the East Fall Line Region Vice President Dess Smith III for a special presentation. Dess Presented President Sandy and the Chapter with 3 Chapter Flag Streamers. One streamer was for receiving the Georgia Society Membership Award for 2025. That award was for maintaining a 90% membership in renewing their membership for 2026. The second streamer was for dual member Steve Burke presenting the Fall Line Chapter wreath at the 4 Patriot Grave marking event in Brunswick at the Wright Square Burial Ground on April 17, 2026. The third streamer was for dual member Steve Burke presenting the Fall Line Chapter wreath at the 248th Frederica Naval Battle event at St. Simons Island on April 18, 2026. President Sandy then talked to the Chapter about the upcoming monument dedication that will bear the names of all 69 Revolutionary War Patriots that are buried in Washington County. The monument will be placed on the Washington County Courthouse square on July 3, at 9 a.m. There will be a ceremony with Compatriots dressed in Continental uniforms and Militia Uniforms who will be firing their cannons. Sandy also told the Chapter that they have already started working on the Wreaths Across America 2026 that will be placed on Veterans graves in Washington County on December 19, 2026. This past year Washington County had over 1,000 Wreaths placed on veterans’ graves in the county. For more information call President Sandy at 478-232-7280.
