The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting May 14, at 6 p.m. at McKinney’s Pond Restaurant in Midville. With President Steve Burke presiding, we had 16 in attendance including guests. President Steve opened the meeting with a welcome and asked 2nd Vice President Gary Mason to open with a prayer. 1st Vice President Alton Reynolds led us in the Pledge to the U.S. Flag and the Pledge to the SAR. We then enjoyed a great buffet meal of shrimp, corn dodgers, French fries and all the trimmings. President Steve called on Compatriot John Derden for a report on the “Brier Creek Battlefield". Registrar Dess Smith III gave the treasurers report. President Steve then called on Registrar Dess Smith to introduce our speaker, Steve Burke, who is retired from Planters Electric and lives with his wife Renee in Garfield. His presentation was on "Colonial Survival". After Steve's outstanding presentation, Registrar Dess presented Steve with a "Certificate of Appreciation". President Steve talked about our past month's events and our upcoming events. Registrar Dess then presented President Steve seven Chapter Flag Streamers, five were from the Georgia Society for 2025: State Americanism Chapter of Excellence Streamer, State Americanism Chapter of Distinction Streamer, Education Outreach Streamer, Distinguished Chapter Streamer and the Membership Streamer, four Patriot Grave Marking event at Wright Square Burial Ground Brunswick and the 248th Anniversary Frederica Naval Action event at Saint Simons Island. 1st VP Alton Reynolds then led us in the SAR Recessional and 2nd VP Gary Mason closed us out with the benediction.
