On Friday morning, March 3, 2023, the Wiregrass, Brier Creek and the Little River Chapters held Education Day at the Brier Creek Battlefield at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 1:30 p.m. and had four sessions set up with three rotating stations. Station #1 was Dr. John Derden sharing his ideas for upcoming tours. He presented an overview of the history of the battlefield and the direction to be taken to ensure a maximum acquisition of the findings on the site and its preservation. Station #2 was Compatriot Steve Burke sharing his lifetime collection of Revolutionary period artifacts, weapons, clothes, etc.… with assistance from Compatriot Lee Herron and Bernard Martin. Station #3 was Alton McCloud demonstrating Revolutionary tent encampment, weapons, and his display of revolutionary items. Even though four classrooms from the Emanuel County School System had to cancel their plans to attend, several parents brought their children to the battlefield. Although attendance was light, the Wiregrass members still had a great time teaching. Among the many impressive artifacts and information that was being provided for attendees, they additionally got to witness the firing of 50 cal., 69 cal., and 75 cal. flintlock rifles and three of the Brier Creek Artillery cannons including, two 6-pound field guns, and a 6-pound naval cannon.
