BOE recognizes over 40 individuals at recent meeting

The Emanuel County Board of Education met on Tuesday, March 8, at 5:30 p.m. at the Swainsboro High School Auditorium with board members John Allen Bailey, Del Brown, Phyllis Dixon, Chairman Mason Henry, Tanya Lane, Johnny Parker and Sandra Swinney attending. Calling the meeting to order, Chairman Henry welcomed everyone, and Del Brown gave the invocation followed by Johnny Parker leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The night’s agenda was then reviewed and approved as presented.

Superintendent Comments

Recognition

•Superintendent Scotty Hattaway welcomed everyone to the meeting and proceeded to recognize board members in honor of the Georgia School Board Association School Board Appreciation Week which is observed March 14 through March 18. Board members were presented with gift baskets.

•Assistant Superintendent Dr. Denise Warnock then recognized Jr. BETA Club students and sponsors/teachers from Swainsboro Elementary and Swainsboro Middle Schools that competed at the Jr. Beta Convention in Savannah on November 30 and December 1. She also recognized district level recipients from Twin City and Swainsboro schools. The following students made placement at the convention and will compete at Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee this summer:

•Following the recognition of students and staff, board members heard a Summer Feeding update provided by Chandra Hooks and a renovation update for Swainsboro Elementary School presented by Jansen Ware.

Discussion on the night’s consent agenda included…

•Review of minutes presented from the regular board meeting on February 8 and a called board meeting on February 28.

•Financial reports presented by Molly Smith.

•Fundraiser requests.

•Surplus of materials

•Approval of Strategic Waiver School System (SWSS) Contract Amendment; Construction Manager for ECI Addition; and ESPLOST Certificate of Distribution.

All items listed on the on Monday’s consent agenda were approved as presented. Board members then entered executive session.
