Board of Education holds January meeting

The Emanuel County Board of Education met on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. at the central office in Swainsboro. Chairman Mason Henry welcomed everyone calling the meeting to order. Johnny Parker delivered the invocation followed by John Allen Bailey leading the pledge of allegiance. Board members approved the agenda for the night’s meeting as presented.

Items on the consent agenda, including Superintendent Comments, were discussed as follows:

• Minutes from the December 14, 2021 Regular Board Meeting were reviewed the board.

• Financial Reports were presented for review by board members.

• Approval of Resolutions to Withdraw Capital Outlay Funding were presented.

• Fundraisers were presented for consideration of approval.

• Approval of retainer for Board Attorney Jerry Cadle.

• Approval of revised academic calendar.

• Approval of copier contract.

• In reference to Superintendent Comments: Updates were provided on operations, technology and the redistricting plan.

Following these discussions, board members approved the consent agenda as presented and then entered into executive session. Upon re-entering normal session, the following was announced:

The board approved the employment of classified employees, Shakayla Avery and Danielle Cunningham, custodians.

Board members approved the resignation of classified employees, Connie Bush and Jennifer Chalker, paraprofessional; Seth Thompson, bus driver; and James Walker, custodian.

The board approved the transfer of certified employees, Kelli Anderson, counselor (SHS); and Jessica Hirst, counselor (interim) (TCE).

Board members approved the transfer of classified employees, Kathryn Braddy, paraprofessional; and Dobbie Johnson, head custodian.
