Swainsboro High School graduates Dakota Blount and Da’rius Phillips didn’t waste time taking the next step on their academic and athletic journeys. The two Tigers signed letters of intent to play football for Thomas University in Thomasville on Friday, May 19, the day after receiving their high school diplomas.

Both athletes were three-year starters and were large contributors to the highest-scoring offense in school history during the spectacular 2022 season. Dakota earned a nod as 1st Team All-Region Offensive Lineman and Da’rius for 1st Team All-Region Defensive Lineman. During their four-year careers, the Tigers were 36-15 with eight playoff wins.

Head Football Coach Scott Roberts and his coaching staff are excited that Dakota and Da'rius get an opportunity to continue their academic and athletic careers. He says, “It has been a thrill to see the way they have grown as players and people since they got here as freshmen. We know they will be great ambassadors for Swainsboro High School."

Blount and Phillips were joined by many supporters, including their parents, grandparents, and other family members. Also present at the signing ceremony were SHS coaches, administrators, teachers, and their football teammates.
