Betty Joyce Steptoe Stapleton, age 85, of Norristown, went to be with her loved ones on Monday, May 22, 2023, at the Emanuel County Nursing Home in Swainsboro. A private graveside service with Reverend Phil Wilson was held in the Corinth Church Cemetery.
Joyce was born October 14, 1937, in Meeks, to Elbert Benjamin Steptoe and Mettie Mae Price Steptoe. She loved children, loved to fish, was an avid reader and a fierce protector of her children and grandchildren. Ms. Stapleton is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldridge “Shorty” Stapleton; son, Henry Wilbur Stapleton; great-granddaughter, Tiffani Marie Stapleton; sister, Audrey McCoy; and brother-in-laws, Henry McCoy, Mack McCorvey and Paul Newsome.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty Ann Watkins (Tony) of Tom; sons, Jack Stapleton (Wanda), Ben Roy Stapleton, Charles Dale Stapleton of Norristown, and Eldridge Stapleton Jr. (Marie) of Modoc; grandchildren, Tony Stapleton (Amber) of Metter, Annie Stapleton Robinson (Kris) of Modoc, and Jack Daniel Stapleton of Norristown; great-grandchildren, Landon Eldridge Stapleton, Ryon Robinson and Slate Stapleton; sisters, Jo Newsome of Kite and Dianne McCorvey of Jackson; brothers, Dewell Steptoe (LaJuan) of Meeks and Huey Steptoe (Ann) of Augusta; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
