Tomlinson Funeral Home & Crematory announces the death of Mrs. Betty Jean Fields Scott, age 81, of Swainsboro. She passed peacefully at Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Funeral services were held Friday, September 22, at 2 p.m. in the Tomlinson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Louis Pearce & Mr. Rand Syslo officiating. Interment followed in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. The family received friends at Tomlinson Funeral Home on Friday, September 22, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.

Pallbearers were Freddie McVey, Randy Garnto, Kyle Boggs, Glenn Deibert, Clay Hall and Barry Coleman.

Betty was born December 23, 1941, in Swainsboro, the youngest of six children, to the late Miles Jackson and Flora Mae Fields. She and her husband, Ennis, resided on Wanda Lane for about 40 years where she made precious friends. Prior to going to the nursing home, Betty lived at Summer Willow Assisted Living. She was a lifelong member of Hawhammock Baptist Church. Betty was an accomplished seamstress and well known for her business, Betty’s Better Mades, creating custom draperies for many in the area. She was very close to her family and extended family. Betty’s hobbies included gardening and cooking, and she was known for her love of jokes. She loved her son, Scott, and enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Scott (Laurie) of Carnesville; grandchildren, Rachel Boggs (Kyle), Jonah Scott, Haylee Scott and Jacob Scott; great-grandchildren, Kylie Boggs, Emery Boggs and Ivy-Claire Boggs; sister, Ladelle Canady; and extended family members.
