Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Betty Edenfield Garrett Smith, age 95, of Swainsboro, on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Mrs. Smith was born December 16, 1927, in Wadley, to the late Palmer G. and Maggie Braddy Edenfield. She was employed as a secretary with the Reese Road Elementary School for many years, and was of the Baptist Faith. Mrs. Smith was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and her family was her greatest joy and accomplishment. She enjoyed gardening, reading and watching old movies. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husbands, Jessie Thomas Garrett and Charles Smith; daughter, Melissa Margaret Coker; brother, Palmer Gordon “Bubba” Edenfield Jr.; and grand-daughter, Sydney Kate Smith.
Survivors include her son, Thomas Garrett (Cheryl) of Swainsboro; grandchild, Thomas P. Garrett; great-grandchild, Jackson Garrett Bullington; nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Community Hospice, 904 Mt. Vernon Rd., Vidalia, GA 30474.
