Governor Brian Kemp announced last week that DAS Corporation will establish a new manufacturing facility in Metter. The company will invest over 35 million dollars and bring 300 new jobs to Candler County. The announcement of the Metter facility is part of the migration of new companies to southeast Georgia that will supply parts for the new Hyundai auto assembly plant being constructed in Bryan County. The new company will produce automotive seat structures in the Candler County Industrial Park beginning in late 2024. Metter Mayor Ed Boyd commented, “The impact on our community will be transformative, stimulating investment in housing, creating other business opportunities, and improving the social and economic wellbeing of our citizenry. State officials,, as well as Hyundai Motor Group, have expressed the need for more than 8,000 qualified employees to be hired to support the manufacture of electric vehicles that will be produced at the plant. This number does not include employees who will be needed by suppliers such as the newly announced DAS operation in Metter. Area planners and economists agree this activity will bring unique opportunities to this part of Georgia and especially to the I-16 corridor. Emanuel County is currently completing a 500-acre industrial park 14 minutes south of Swainsboro on Interstate 16.
