What began as an ordinary Wednesday at The Forest-Blade quickly turned into a rescue mission with a happy ending.
On Wednesday, July 1, employees at The Forest-Blade began hearing faint cries of what sounded like a kitten coming from inside the walls of the newspaper's conference room. After determining the sound was coming from inside the wall, staff contacted the Swainsboro Fire Department to see if firefighters could help.
Firefighters Jacob Swingle and Kaalynn Tate responded to the call and immediately went to work locating the trapped kitten. After carefully cutting several openings in the wall, the firefighters were able to safely free the frightened little kitten.
The story didn't end there.
As fate would have it, Natalie Drew of Twin City happened to be visiting The Forest-Blade at the time of the rescue. She volunteered to give the kitten a forever home and has named her Piper.
A visit to the veterinarian revealed that Piper is approximately three weeks old and is healthy and adjusting well to her new surroundings. “She is adorable and we love her so much,” said her new owner.
Thanks to the quick response and determination of the Swainsboro firefighters, what could have ended tragically instead became a heartwarming reminder that no rescue is too small. Their efforts truly went above and beyond the call of duty.
