A new red roof

Posted

What is this machine that sits with an old Fordson tractor under a bright red roof? We’ve been told we now have “class” with that red roof, and folks say it looks good! The machine is a Frick Peanut Picker, dated 1944, according to its patent date. It was towed to the field by such a tractor as the one with it where a belt would be attached to it and the flywheel on the tractor. That turned several paddles at the back of the picker and when dried peanut plants were put on those paddles, they were drawn into the machine and the peanut was separated from the plant. Certainly helpful to the farmers of that day.

The tractor was one Henry Ford built at the end of WWI 1917 and sold at a low cost to help the farmers.

We have many items like these at the Longview Farm and Home Museum. For touring information, please call 478-763-3631. We will be open October 17, 2026 to celebrate our country’s 250th birthday. More information on that later.
