Ware’s Bar-B-Q hosted their 4th annual ‘One Fore One Challenge’ on Saturday, August 22, at the Swainsboro Golf and Country Club. The event started at 9 a.m. with 25 teams participating.
The mission statement is “One Club for One Cause”. This is because golfers are only allowed to use one club throughout nine holes of play. Therefore, this isn’t a traditional golf tourney in any sense of the word.
They also allow legal ways for golfers to get ahead (cheat, lol). There are two games golfers can pay to participate in. On hole 3, for a donation, they can try to sink a Cornhole bag for an automatic hole in one. They call it the Cornhole in One game. On hole 9, they have the Hole of Fortune. For a donation, golfers can spin a wheel that offers many advantages such as half the distance to the green or even a do over on a putt. They also offer a 50/50 payout on hole 6 for the longest drive.
It is important to the sponsors that the money raised stays local, and Joe and Christy Holoway choose beneficiaries who serve our community. This year, they chose the Emanuel County Nursing Home Activities Department. They received donations and sponsorships from over 40 local businesses and individuals. Without that support, none of this would be possible.
Ware’s Bar-B-Q was able to raise $9,600 this year, bringing the 4-year total raised and donated to local causes to over $25,000.
Winners of the 2026 One Fore One Challenge tournament were:
1st place, Tyler Rhodes and David Donaldson
2nd place, Jody Hudson and Billy Trull
3rd place, Lige Moore and Matt Simmons
Longest drive winner, Matt Simmons
All net profits for this year’s event went to The Emanuel County Nursing Home Activities Department whose goal is to ensure that every resident, regardless of physical limitations, financial circumstances, or the availability of family support, has the opportunity to experience joy, purpose, companionship, and meaningful engagement. They believe that growing older or living in a nursing home should never mean giving up the chance to laugh, explore, create new memories, or remain connected to the community.
