Dear Community,
Our 23rd Annual Book bag Drive will be held Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mr. Robert’s Store parking lot on W MLK Blvd. and N Green St. I’m inviting ALL our children to come be with us once again and we are looking forward to seeing you and all parents. We will have book bags and school supplies for you and we will be having our outdoor picnic.
This year’s 23rd Annual Book bag Drive will be dedicated to the memory of the late Superintendent of Emanuel County Schools, Mrs. Erma Jenkins. Mrs. Jenkins attended the book bag drive every year until she became ill. She didn’t’ have to do this in the high position that she held, but she loved the children and she was dedicated to it. She would always start off with a song and a prayer, and she would get the children’s attention. Mrs. Jenkins would tell them what she expected of them and always told them, “You can be something great if you study and work hard at it and always be on your best behavior”. She would ask trivia questions such as “Who is the Mayor of Swainsboro?” and “Who is the President of the United States?”. The kids had a great time answering her questions.
I attended Mrs. Jenkins’ funeral, and the word ‘Trailblazer’ came up several times as people spoke about her. She was truly a trailblazer and a champion for the children of Emanuel County. May her memory be a blessing!
As I close this letter, please keep us in your prayers that we have a safe and successful event. It’s all about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Without him we would not have lasted all these years. Thank you to the community for all your prayers, love and support you have shown for ALL our children in the community.
I am inviting all pastors, school teachers, retired teachers, community leaders, our firemen, law enforcement officers, coaches, elected officials, veterans, community members, to all join us…we would love to have you! Let’s all get together and mentor to our children.
A special request…I ask of our pastors to pray for the children, parents, all school officials and the community for a safe and successful school year.
God Bless,
Ronnie Shuemake
