Local business spotlight: How ZCorum is empowering the next generation through employment opportunities

Posted

Rural, southern towns often have a keen sense of community, particularly when it comes to small town employers. These employers are often deeply invested in their employees and the local community and play an important role in keeping the town vibrant and thriving.

One such employer is ZCorum, a Georgia technology company with a technical support center here in Swainsboro. With an office down a side road from East Georgia College, ZCorum is a little out of sight but easy to find.

Who Is ZCorum?

Established in the early 1990s with headquarters in metro Atlanta, ZCorum is a privately owned American technology company with a rich tradition of helping internet providers deliver services to their subscribers. With the advent of the World Wide Web in 1994, they began offering residential and commercial Internet services, becoming one of the first commercial Internet Service Providers in the country.

Today ZCorum partners with cable companies, telephone companies, utilities, and municipalities throughout the world, to provide managed services that help deliver broadband to communities.

As ZCorum grew, the need arose for a technical support center for internet subscribers. They established the center in Swainsboro to support their customers and to offer a career path in technology to the citizens in the community.

Recruiting and interviews were held at local colleges and training classes began shortly after. The Swainsboro Center opened in 2001 and was originally housed in a storefront in the downtown area (now Everwild Boutique) but later moved to a building near the East Georgia College campus. This new building can provide positions for over 150 technical support agents.

The ZCorum Difference

ZCorum is more than just a place to work; it's a family of dedicated technology employees and part of the town's diverse social fabric. One thing that sets ZCorum apart from other employers is its commitment to its employees. In many ways, ZCorum represents the best of small-town employers.

“ZCorum’s success is because of the hard work and dedication of our staff who feel more like family than employees,” said Jason Young, ZCorum’s Vice President of Support Services. “We’re deeply committed to our employees and always looking for ways to positively impact their lives.”

As small towns across America face economic and social challenges, it's heartening to know that employers like ZCorum are dedicated to making a difference. They may not make big headlines, but they play a critical role in keeping small towns thriving and vibrant.
