On Sunday, Jan. 24, Emanuel County Engine 202 from Twin City responded to a motor vehicle fire on Lambs Bridge Road by South Old Reidsville Road. A Pontiac Firebird was located on the shoulder with fire around the fuel tank. The grass area around the vehicle was also burning.

A 1 3/4 inch line was stretched and operated to extinguish most of the fire. Some fire was still burning inside the car’s body but was quickly extinguished by using a Class B-C dry powder extinguisher. Sheriff’s deputies assisted at the scene. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

As a side note: In mythology, the Phoenix, also known as the firebird, is a large multi-colored bird that builds its own funeral pyre or nest and ignites it with a single clap of its wings. After death, it rises from the ashes and flies away to be reborn. The symbolism of the Phoenix is used by many fire departments around the world. The city seal of Atlanta is the Phoenix and dates to the rebirth after the burning during the civil war.
