You Are What You Eat – Part Two

Posted

Again, we deal with the importance of eating. Our previous concerns were to get an understanding of the importance of feeding the natural man. Just know it is a major connection with spiritual and natural eating. Remember that it was in eating (Adam and Eve's disobedience), which caused our spiritual separation from God. Now, how are we going to be restored? If disobedience caused the fall of man, then obedience, eating, will cause our reinstatement to God.

Our connecting scripture is Matthew 4:4. When Jesus was hungry, Satan tried to temp Him to turn stones into bread. Jesus replied with, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone (or only) but by every word which proceeds out of the mouth of God." That means in order for us to live, we must also eat God's word.

John 1:1 tells us, "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God." Then, in verse 14, He says. "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." This was Jesus, the Living Word.

In John chapter six, Jesus performed the miracle of feeding 5,000 men plus the women and children with two little fish and five barley loaves of bread. After the miracle, the crowd followed Him. Then, in John 6:26-27, Jesus said, ".... Verily, Verily I say unto you, you seek me, not because you saw the miracles, but because you did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labor not for the meat which perishes, but for the meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for Him has God the Father sealed."

So, here we are today, not missing a natural meal. But are we spending time in the Word of God? Are we feeding the spiritual man as often as we feed the natural man? Jesus plainly tells us that the natural man is going to perish. He tells us to labor for the spiritual food so we can live forever. He promises to raise us up in the last day. Remember, you are what you eat. It's time to change our habits and eat more spiritual food. Matthew 5:6 tells us, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteous: for they shall be filled."

Ask God to give you a hunger for His word. He wants to fill you. As a child of God, you become what you eat. So, what are you eating the most? Is it television, Facebook, TicTok, Twitter or other social media? It's time to feed the spiritual man by spending time with God. It's ok for others to tell you what God says to them, but have you gotten in a quiet place so He can speak to you?

By feeding the spirit man spiritual things and He will lead you and guide you. Feed the spirit man and your emotions and feelings will be strengthened. Continue to feed the spirit man and your complaints will be less while you will thank God more. Feed the spirit man and He will turn those frowns into smiles and hate will turn into love. Remember, he that hungers and thirsts after righteous shall be filled. You are what you eat. Jesus is the bread of life.
