Ongoing investigation continues
At approximately 11 a.m. Sunday, July 18, Emanuel County deputies were dispatched to Bird Flanders Road in reference to a male subject attempting to steal property from a residence. When confronted by the homeowner, the offender fled off foot, leaving behind the vehicle he was driving.
A perimeter was set up and Swainsboro Police Department Sgt. Clay Young brought K-9 Maya to track the suspect. The Georgia State Patrol helicopter was requested and also responded.
Within a couple of hours from the original dispatch, deputies responded to a second homeowner’s location where the suspect had been spotted and arrested Thomas Hoyet Woods, resident of Swainsboro.
Woods was booked into the Emanuel County Jail for motor vehicle theft. The vehicle Woods had been driving was stolen from Swainsboro approximately one week ago. The investigation is still on going and additional charges will be added.
