NOTICE OF LOCATION AND DESIGN APPROVAL

P. I. 0017227

EMANUEL COUNTY

Notice is hereby given in compliance with Georgia Code 22-2-109 and 32-3-5 that the Georgia Department of Transportation has approved the Location and Design of this project.

The date of location and design approval is: ____March 12, 2025____

The proposed project would replace the two existing bridge culverts on State Route (SR) 192 over Big Long Creek and over Big Long Creek Tributary in General Militia District (GMD) 57 of Emanuel County, Georgia approximately 1.4 and 2.5 miles, respectively, east of the City of Summertown. The approximate project length is 1.4 miles with a 0.8 mile exception area between the two sites.

These bridges would be constructed on single spans along the existing alignment, while traffic is directed to a temporary on-site detour using temporary bridges parallel to the existing roadway. The approximate construction duration will be 18 months, and the proposed roadway will consist of two 11-foot-wide travel lanes with 4-foot wide (2-foot wide paved) wide shoulders.

Georgia Department of Transportation would be responsible for acquiring property rights for this project.

Drawings or maps or plats of the proposed project, as approved, are on file and are available for public inspection at the Georgia Department of Transportation:

Georgia Department of Transportation

Request for Feedback

For P.I. No. 0018235

Emanuel County

0018235

The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) is requesting review and feedback on the proposed project. We appreciate your participation in this process.

The proposed project is to replace the bridge located on County Road (CR) 160/Halls Bridge Toad, 1.8 miles northwest of Norristown.

The existing bridge over Mulepen Creek was built in 1920. The existing bridge consists of five spans and HL-93. The bridge is load restricted and is scour critical. The bridge features two 8-ft lanes on a 16-ft dirt roadway surface, with no shoulders, medians, bike lanes, or sidewalks. There is an existing 60-foot-wide prescriptive easement and an additional right-of-way of 110-130 feet is anticipated. An off-site detour is proposed during construction which would utilize Mt. Zion Church Road, Keas Old Mill Pond Road, and US 221/ SR 17 and have a net length increase in travel of 1.8 miles.

Georgia DOT has placed information about the proposed project at https://www.dot.ga.gov/GDOT/Pages/PublicOutreach.aspx. The information on the website is provided in place of an in-person meeting allowing the public to review the proposed project, provide feedback, or write in with questions.
