Watkins presents supplies to Swainsboro Primary School

Many students begin the school year without basic supplies like paper and pencils. Thanks to Millie Watkins and her parents, Emanuel County students will receive nearly $400 in school supplies.

In June, The Forest Blade featured Millie, an upcoming first grader at Swainsboro Primary School. Millie was planning to host a lemonade stand and bake sale to raise funds for school supplies so students in need could start the new school year prepared. And she did just that! On Wednesday, June 29, Millie hosted her lemonade stand at the Forest Blade on Morning Street.

With the help of the community, her venture was a success. Millie's parents agreed to match any proceeds she made from the stand so that Millie could buy supplies for primary school students and other schools in the system. Millie has a servant's heart and thinks of others. Realizing other students may not have what they need, Millie wanted to do something "sweet." Millie shows you do not have to be an adult to make a difference in others' lives.
