Vote “YES” to E-SPLOST

Posted

During the November 2021 election cycle, voters will have the option to vote YES to extend the current 1 percent (one penny) sales tax for education called E-SPLOSTS. This tax is an extension of the current sales tax - this is not a new tax.

An E-SPLOST is a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) for education and includes a one-cent sales tax on all retail purchases. This means that everyone who makes a purchase in the Emanuel County Schools District (including visitors) contributes to the support of local schools. By law, an E-SPLOST can only be used for certain capital projects, such as buildings, furnishings, computers, and buses. SPLOST funds cannot be used for the day-to-day operational expenses of a school district.

All children in the local school system benefit from this tax. Everyone who shops in Emanuel County pays this tax! Visit your local schools to see improvements funded by revenues generated by the current ESPLOST. Currently, there are multiple projects in the area being completed because of ESPLOST!

If you have questions regarding the projects for your child's school, please contact a committee member. The passage of this ESPLOST will be the first E-SPLOST in many years that will not go towards the payment of school bonds, meaning that all monies collected will go towards school improvement projects county-wide! Don’t forget - VOTE YES!
