Veterans meet to discuss the Wreaths Across America project

Veterans recently met at the Franklin Memorial Library to have their weekly discussion about their on-going project, Wreaths Across America, set to take place December 17 at 11 a.m. Be sure and get in touch with Sherri Watt at 478-237-7719 with the name, branch of service, cemetery name and location in the cemetery of your veteran that is not marked on his tombstone in one of the following Cemeteries: Swainsboro City Cemetery, First Baptist Cemetery, Early Settlers Cemetery, and the East Brook Cemetery. The veteran’s group had four new veterans to attend their recent session: John Bussell, Jerry Johnson, Jason Letterman, and Terry Reynolds. Bussell served in the U.S. Army from October 1965 through October 1968 and in Vietnam from May 1967 through May 1968, including the Tet Offensive. While in Vietnam, he served in the A Maintenance Detachment as part of the 1st Brigade, 1st Calvary Division. Johnson served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 through 1969, USNRTC San Diego, COMCRUDESLANT, Newport, RI attached to USS VOGE DE-1047; USS William R. Rush DD-714 Boston Navy Shipyard; and USNAS Jacksonville, FL. Letterman served in the U.S. Army from March 1, 1994, through July 10, 2010. While in the U.S. Army Infantry, he was deployed to Iraq on three tours. On his last tour, he received a Purple Heart for injuries that caused him to be a double amputee. Reynolds served in the U.S. Air Force from June 1967 through June 1973, while serving two years at Yahoto Air Force Base, Japan; one year at Kimpo Air Force Base, Korea; and one year at Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina.
