Veterans Discuss Memorial Day Event

Posted

The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting, Monday morning, May 22, 2023, at the Franklin Memorial Library at 9:15 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, there were 38 veterans in attendance. The main topic discussed was the upcoming Memorial Day Event scheduled for Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans and First Responders Memorial Park located at the corner of U.S. Hiway 80 and Georgia Hiway 57. On that day, Veterans will be honoring the brave men and women that gave their lives for us to have the freedoms that we enjoy today. Each war will be read out and the names of the 13 soldiers that died in August 2021 will be read along with the Army National Guard that died protecting our southern border with the bell ringing. Also, the names of the local police and fire fighters will be read along with the ringing of the bell. Veteran, Scotty Nasworthy, will lower the first U.S. Flag that flew over the newly named park and will be placed in the Franklin Memorial Library along the veteran's wall. A 3-round volley of Revolutionary War Flintlock's and cannons will be fired, and taps will be played by Veteran Bob Nobles. After that, a new U.S. Flag will be raised with the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner by Veteran Bob Nobles on his bugle. The Veterans invite you to attend this wonderful ceremony and hope to see you there. They ask that you arrive early to get a good parking place.
