Tomlinson Funeral Home and Crematory announces the death of Mrs. Vandilla Snellgrove Gay, age 82, on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at her home in the Wesley Community following a brief illness. Funeral services were Wednesday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at Nunez Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Harrell officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Interment followed in the Youmans Cemetery in Nunez.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Mrs. Gay was born February 4, 1940, to E.W. "Cat" Snellgrove, Sr. and Rosa Mae Brown Snellgrove. She attended Emanuel County Schools and was a member of the 1958 graduating class of Swainsboro High School, and was proud of the fact that she had perfect attendance all 12 years of school. Mrs. Gay spent 23 years as a legal secretary at a law firm in Savannah. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Nunez Baptist Church. Mrs. Gay is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years, Bobby Oscar Gay; brothers, E. W. "Buck" Snellgrove, Jr., Luther Elvis Snellgrove, William Lovette Snellgrove, and Elma Snellgrove; and sisters, Estelle McKay, Thelma Shehan, and Atha Bearden.
Survivors include one son, Kevin (Beth) Gay; grandson, Steven Gay, all of Wesley; one sister, Rose Ellen Snellgrove Derriso of Swainsboro; and many nieces and nephews.
