Blake Ellison Trimble recently accepted the esteemed position of Dean for one of Yale University’s undergraduate colleges, in New Haven, Connecticut. There he will hold a lectureship in the Humanities division and continue his research and teaching in spirituality, cultural theory, and the philosophy of religion while overseeing the academic and student affairs for Morse College at Yale.

Earlier this month, Trimble earned his PhD from The University of Oxford in England where he spent the last six years working and studying. In his role as Junior Dean for various Oxford colleges, he worked closely with the undergraduate student population, supporting students through the personal and academic challenges of university life.

Dr. Trimble also led a variety of teams and committees including academic events, cultural holidays, co-curricular opportunities, and emergency response. In addition to this, he worked as a personal trainer, primarily teaching classes to senior citizens. His studies at Oxford focused on cultural theory, social semiotics, theology, and critical theory. Moreover, he worked alongside professors with the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology in researching the intersectionality between religion and nationalism in both the “East” and the “West.”

Dr. Trimbell, has completed and obtained his master’s degrees from Oxford, Duke, and Regent College - an affiliated college of the University of British Columbia and has an undergraduate degree from Baylor University.

Dr. Trimble has extensive experience outside the college setting. In New Zealand, he worked at a public policy ‘think tank’ as a social justice researcher, learning from leaders in the Māori communities and analyzing social statistics on vulnerable youth in Aotearoa. Dr. Trimble also worked in manufacturing plants for US car companies as an environmental researcher. Across the US and in Europe, he worked for several charities and non-profits including urban gardens, anti-trafficking initiatives, community art classes, and after school programs where he helped high school students apply for college, many of whom were first-generation college students.

Though he has spent a considerable amount of time overseas, Dr. Trimble currently works for private Ivy League statutory, Cornel University, and is originally from Detroit. He loves discussing anything related to the history of music in his hometown.

Dr. Trimble is the son of Mike and Terry Henry Trimble of Michigan. He is the grandson of the late Berlie Ellis and Inell Amerson Henry of Swainsboro. He has many relatives in Emanuel County.

Congratulations Dr. Trimble for not only accomplishing so many notable achievements but for also obtaining this historical honorary position.
