Mr. Tommy Edward Fields, 76, of Swainsboro, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022, at his residence following an extended illness. Graveside memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, in the Swainsboro City Cemetery with Reverend Louis Pearce officiating.
Mr. Fields was born March 8, 1946, in Swainsboro, to W. E. Fields and Mary Ann Price Fields. He was a NASCAR fan from the late 1950s and knew its history inside and out. Tommy learned how to fabricate so he could build race cars for himself and others. He also used his talents to build log trailers, Fields Built, for local loggers. Tommy loved LeeRoy Yarbrough and got the chance to help him win a big race in Savannah. In addition to his experience and knowledge in NASCAR and his record of competing in the Hobby and Sportsman NASCAR Divisions, Tommy also raced at Swainsboro Raceway. He had retired from Battle Lumber Company. He loved his family and was so very proud of them. Mr. Fields is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Tochie M. Fields; brothers, Billy Ray Fields, Toby Fields, and Randy Fields; and sister, Gloria Kitchens.
Mr. Fields is survived by his daughter, Tracy Fields Mason (Cliff) of Swainsboro; stepdaughter, Michelle Ivey (Joel) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Caroline Mason, Ethan Mason, Karsyn Ivey, and Tripp Ivey; brother, David Fields (Sandra) of Kite; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emanuel County Animal Shelter, 343 Market Street, Swainsboro, Georgia, 30401.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
