DEA recognizes Lawson acts of kindness

At David Emanuel Academy, the school focuses on how God would want everyone to be. How does He want us to live? How does He want us to treat others -- our neighbors, His children? DEA Headmaster Haylee Free prays that everyone at least knows the golden rule - Do unto others as you would have them to do unto you.

To know the rule is great, but, do we actually live it? Do we treat others as we would want to be treated? At DEA’s all-school chapel, the school takes time to recognize a student that was spotted shining in an act or acts of kindness. Just recently, a student was recognized for exemplifying how God wants us all to live. His name is Brayden Lawson.

In a nomination written by a schoolteacher, described what character the young man holds by saying “This fella is not ashamed for others to see that Jesus lives in his heart.”

The action that led to Lawson’s recent nomination was observed on the school’s playground area. The teacher was on the playground and some middle school students were also outside. The bell rang and it was time for the children to go inside. A new student did not know what the bell ringing meant. Lawson went over to the new student and told him it was time to go inside. He then waited on this student and continued talking to him all the way inside. It was obvious that the new student felt relaxed as they went into the building together.

This was a kind act, but this is not all this boy has been spotted doing. Lawson is known to be a gentleman. He opens doors when others’ hands are full, picks up things that others drop and always has a great, big, warm smile on his face.

A smile is the easiest way to show kindness and through his smile, Lawson shares kindness with everyone he meets.
