The Board of Commissioners show their appreciation to County Employees

The Emanuel County Board of Commissioners convened for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Monday, December 19, at 6:45 p.m., at the John C. Coleman Hotel in Downtown Swainsboro. Alongside Chairman Jim Sherrod, Commissioners present for the meeting were, Vice Chairman Hugh Foskey, Desse Davis, and James Canady. Absent and unable to attend the session was Commissioner Keith Thompson. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jim Sherrod who welcomed guests and media. Commissioner Desse Davis presented the invocation and Vice Chairman Commissioner Hugh Foskey led the pledge of allegiance. Minutes from the regular Commissioners meeting that was held on November 21 were presented for review by Chairman Jim Sherrod as well as the minutes from the special workshop meeting that was held on December 14. Commissioner Davis motioned for the approval of minutes as presented and was seconded by Commissioner Foskey with all remaining Commissioners voting accordingly.

Employee Appreciation Program and Award Ceremony

Following the introduction of the meeting, an Employee Appreciation Program was held that honored certain, dedicated, county employees who work diligently to make Emanuel County a safe and beautiful place to call home. Award Honorees were: County Clerk, Harriett Lawson, who has served 45 years with the Board of Commissioners, Lisa Barwick who has served 5 years with Emanuel County 911, Justin Morris who has served 5 years with the Road Department, Phillip Morris who has served 15 years with the Road Department, Robert Radford who has served 10 years with the Road Department, Charles Harmon who has served 5 years on the General Government Building’s maintenance team, Travis Beach who has served 5 years at the Solid Waste Transfer Station, Codi Usry who has served 5 years with the Swainsboro Sheriff’s Department and Emanuel County Jail, Marty Mercer who has served 5 years with the Swainsboro Sheriff’s Department and Emanuel County Jail, Richard Reddish who has served 5 years with the Swainsboro Sheriff’s Department and Emanuel County Jail, Tanisha Rich who has served 5 years with the Swainsboro Sheriff’s Department and Emanuel County Jail, Sarah Purvis who has served 5 years with the Swainsboro Sheriff’s Department and Emanuel County Jail, and Vanessa Coxwell who was honored for serving 15 consecutive years with the Tax Commissioner's Office but has actually served 30 years with the Tax Commissioner's office. Before closing remarks were presented, one last special recognition award was given to Commissioner James Ray Canady by Chairman Jim Sherrod, for his sincere love for our community, the people within it and his 16 years of loyal and dedicated service to the citizens of Emanuel County, as well as his role as a County Commissioner for District 5 from 2003 to 2014 and 2019 to 2022.

New Business

· County Administrator Guy Singletary held a discussion on the consideration for the proposal of new Motorola Emergency Communications. Commissioner Canady motioned for the approval of the purchase of the Emergency Communications from Motorola and Commissioner Davis seconded.

· County Administrator Guy Singletary held a discussion on the financing of the Motorola Emergency Communications. Commissioner Canady motioned for the approval of the financing for the Motorola Emergency Communications and Commissioner Davis seconded.

· County Administrator Guy Singletary held a discussion that requested the action of a resolution in creating an Emanuel County Public Facilities Authority. Commissioner Foskey motioned for the approval of creating a County Public Facilities Authority and Commissioner Canady seconded. All of the preceding motions passed with a unanimous vote..
