Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of  Miss Sydney Kate Smith, 16, of Swainsboro. She passed away Saturday, July, 18, 2020 at Egleston Hospital in Dekalb County.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors, Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kurt Grimm officiating. A cremain burial will be in the Wadley City Cemetery at a later date. The family received friends at the funeral home from 5 until 7 p.m. Social distancing guidelines were applied and a limited number of visitors were allowed in the building at any given time.

Miss Sydney Kate Smith loved to draw, paint, and write stories. She was extremely talented and took pleasure in all sorts of crafting activities. Smith thoroughly enjoyed the beach. She and Cheryl considered themselves “beach bums”. She loved music and dance, and despite her young age, had an appreciation for music from the 70’s. Smith was preceded in death by her grandmother, whom she adored, Melissa Coker.

Survivors Include her uncle and aunt,  Thomas and Cheryl Garrett, “Dad and Mom”, of Swainsboro; her brother, Garrett Bullington of Columbus; her stepbrother, Jeremy Tomlinson of Gainesville, FL; her great—grandmother, Betty Smith of Swainsboro; and her cousin, Tommy Garrett of Daytona Beach, FL.
