Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Sybil Wiggins Grimes, age 92, of
Swainsboro, on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 16, at 2 p.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Louis Pearce officiating and Rev. Rusty Moore assisting. Interment followed in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. CDC social distancing guidelines were observed and masks were encouraged for the safety and health and well-being of others.
Pallbearers were Harry Dean Wiggins, Jeff Wiggins, Cleve Edenfield, John Thompson, Bubba Grimes, and Chris Carr.
Mrs. Grimes was born November 5, 1928, in Swainsboro, to the late Floyd and Nettie Thompson Wiggins. She was previously employed with the Swainsboro Elementary School Lunchroom for 10 plus years, enjoyed cooking, and loved fishing. Mrs. Grimes was a member of the Mt. Shady Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Horace Donald Grimes.
Survivors include her son, H. Glenn Grimes Sr. (Mary) of Swainsboro; two grandchildren, Tammy Grimes Cross (Mike) and H. Glenn Grimes Jr. “Bubba”; four great-grandchildren, Lexie Cross, Taylor Cross, Jacob Grimes, and Aaralyn Grimes.
