Swainsboro turns 200 in December!

Earlier this week, a group met to discuss the observance of the upcoming 200th birthday of the City of Swainsboro. Representing the Chamber of Commerce, Swainsboro City Hall, and a number of interested citizens, the committee plans to host a ceremony soon on the downtown square to mark the actual passage of the resolution chartering the City which took place in December of 1822. Following that, a series of events will be held early next year highlighting milestone periods in the life of the town. Celebration of the city’s Bicentennial had been postponed from an earlier date in expectation of the hiring of a new Downtown Development Director. That position remains unfilled.
