The Swainsboro Tigers (5-9) completed their non-region schedule last week and will tie up with the Vidalia Indians 3 times this week to kick off Region 2-AA. Vidalia is 9-4 on the season and one of the favorites to claim a region crown at season’s end.
In non-region action, the Tigers claimed victories in 2 out of 3 games last week. Swainsboro took down Treutlen County 14-3 and Jefferson County 1-0, sandwiched around a 4-2 loss to Bleckley County.
The offense showed up against Treutlen County, scoring 13 total runs in the 4th and 5th innings to mercy rule the Vikings. Lenox Lively starred, allowing only 1 hit over 5 innings and getting 3 hits at the plate himself. Gaston Kirby also had 3 hits for the winning Tigers.
On Wednesday, Swainsboro matched up with a tough Bleckley County squad. Swainsboro’s offense was unable to keep the momentum going from the previous day’s outburst, managing only 1 hit. Elijah Loyd was effective over 5 innings in the close loss.
Friday’s game against Jefferson County continued the search for consistent offense as the Tigers were only able to find 3 hit and 1 run for the game. However, the pitching was dominant, led by 4 one-hit innings from Nathan Riddle and 3 terrific innings by Jacob Durden for the shutout victory.
Swainsboro will be on the road against Vidalia on Tuesday and Friday and host the Indians on Thursday.
