Swainsboro remains at the top of region standings

The Swainsboro Tigers (9-1) fended off a tough week of region foes to remain unbeaten in region 2AA. Jeff Davis and Vidalia took turns trying to knock off the king of the hill and gave the Tigers their best shot, but Swainsboro prevailed by turning up the intensity in the final 2 quarters.

The Tigers went 3-0 on the week with a 57-51 win over Jeff Davis, an 83-49 blowout of East Laurens, and 64-53 victory over Vidalia.

Both Jeff Davis and Vidalia used hot shooting in the first half to put a scare into the Tigers, but inspired 3rd quarter play from Swainsboro flipped both of those games to the Tigers favor. Swainsboro outscored Jeff Davis 30-21 over the final 2 quarters and blew away Vidalia 39-22 in the 2nd half. Fred Seabrough took over against Jeff Davis after halftime with 13 of his 20 points when his team needed a boost. Tyler Kelly scored 7 points in the 3rd quarter against Vidalia as part of a 24-11 run that turned the tide for the Tigers.

Against Jeff Davis, Fred led the way with 20 points and Kelly chipped in 12 points. Flex Washington was the leading scorer against East Laurens with 18 points and Kelly followed up with 14 points. Fred was the top scorer against Vidalia with 15 points and Kelly scored 14 points. Cedric Seabrough added 13 points.

Swainsboro will travel to Woodville-Tompkins Tuesday and Bacon County on Friday. Woodville-Tompkins has lost but once on the season, an early season loss to Swainsboro.
