Swainsboro High School Class of 1972 50th Reunion

Posted

On Saturday evening May 14, 2022, classmates of the SHS Class of 1972 gathered to celebrate their 50th class reunion. As classmates arrived, they were warmly greeted on the expansive front porch and presented name tags. Special thank you to classmate Carol Free Yeomans for graciously hosting the event at her Yeomans Barn in Nunez. Everyone enjoyed a social hour of reconnecting and reminiscing, with bursts of laughter heard throughout as memories were shared.

Tim Garrett, class president welcomed classmates and special guest including former teacher Mr. Ken Griner. Karen Johnson Vereen lit 41 candles in memory of late classmates. The candles were beautifully displayed on a memorial table covered with a white tablecloth and decorated with a sunflower arrangement and a large cross. Phil Wilson and Franklin Moore read aloud each of the 41 classmates names. Phil Wilson prayed a memorial prayer and followed with a blessing for our meal.

Tim and Teresa Coleman of the famous Real South BBQ of Swainsboro provided a delicious buffet meal of BBQ pork and grilled chicken, potato salad, green beans, rolls, chocolate delight, and banana pudding served with your choice of tea, lemonade, and ice water. The dining tables were covered with white tablecloths and each held a lovely centerpiece of sunflowers and greenery accented with bows of black and gold, the SHS school colors.

An evening of entertainment was provided by the very talented Will Gay and Dorie Parker singing favorite 70s dance tunes, along with special selections of country and gospel. Everyone enjoyed gathering around a special table of memorabilia including a large variety of class pictures, graduation mementos, newspaper clippings, and year books.

A special thank you to our planning committee Franklin Moore, Phil Wilson, Karen Vereen, Jackie Almond, Zebe Durden Henry, Chris Hodges, Jenni Starling, Lei T. Falotico, Tommie Jean Gambrell, and Thomas Henry for working so hard for our perfect evening. Thirty-six classmates attended along with their spouses, special guests, and friends for a total of 62 present. As the evening came to a close, everyone agreed it was the best reunion we’ve ever had and we all plan to meet again real soon.
