Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Susie E. Edenfield, age 89, of Evans, on Friday, January 1, 2021, at Madison Heights Assisted Living in Evans. Graveside services were conducted at Swainsboro City Cemetery on Monday, January 4, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Rusty Moore officiating and Rev. Louis Pearce assisting. CDC social distancing guidelines were observed and masks were encouraged for the safety and health and well-being of others.
Pallbearers were Jamie Edenfield, Cleve Edenfield, Kevin Edenfield, Christopher Edenfield, and Michael Smith. Honorary Escort was Robert Edenfield.
Born in Swainsboro to the late Henry and Ina Blount Edenfield, Susie was the last survivor of her seven siblings. Susie had a degree in nursing and worked with Emanuel County Hospital. She retired in 1999 from Ogeechee Health Services. Her hobbies were painting chinaware, and baking, but she loved and was passionate about her yard work. Mrs. Edenfield was a member of the Mt. Shady Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James O. Edenfield; son, Jack Edenfield; two sisters, Marie Broadway and Elizabeth Zellinger; five brothers, Benton Edenfield, Otis Edenfield, David Edenfield, Bill Edenfield, and Cleve Edenfield.
Survivors include, son, Johnny Edenfield (Lawanda) of Richmond Hill; daughter, Anne E. Smith (Paul) of Grovetown; five grandchildren, Michael Smith (Jenna) of New York City, Katie Heibert (Mark) of Louisville, Kristi Stevens (Glenn) of Swainsboro, Jamie Edenfield (Lisa) of Lexsy, and Christopher Edenfield (Allie) of Beaufort, SC; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
