Superintendent Hattaway sworn into office at recent called BOE meeting

Emanuel County Schools Superintendent Scotty W. Hattaway was sworn into office by the Honorable Probate Court Judge Don E. Wilkes Thursday, September 30, prior to a special called meeting of the Board of Education.

The meeting began at 9 a.m. and was hosted at the central office in Swainsboro. With all board members present except Phyllis Dixon and Johnny Parker, the meeting was called to order by Chairman Mason Henry who welcomed all and delivered the invocation. Board member John Allen Bailey then led the pledge of allegiance.

The agenda for Thursday’s meeting was reviewed and approved as presented. Items listed on the consent agenda were as follows:

•GSBA Board of Education Training Plan

•FY22 Property Tax Digest and 5-year history

In reference to superintendent comments…

•Janson Ware provided a demo update on the old Twin City Elementary School. He also gave an update on a punch list for Swainsboro Middle School.

•Discussion was held on discipline data.

•A change in date for the November board meeting was made. Instead of the meeting being held on Tuesday, November 9, the meeting will held the following week on Tuesday, November 16, at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Swainsboro High School.

Board members unanimously approved the consent agenda as presented.

In Executive session

•Board members approved the certified employment of Patrice Robinson, teacher.

•The Board approved the classified employment of Susan Carlson, SFS substitute; Erica Pennington, substitute teacher; LeaAnn Williams, nurse coordinator; and Melinda Futch and Susan Lewis, SFS assistants.

•Board members approved the resignation of classified employee Emerald Hambrick, paraprofessional.

•The Board approved the transfer of classified employees Claudia Arledge, administrative assistant; and Kimberly Dowless, accounting specialist.
