Softball season comes to an end for the Lady Tigers

On October 18, the softball season came to an end for the SHS Lady Tigers. The team loaded the bus early last Friday morning and traveled to Barnesville, GA to face the Lamar County Lady Trojans in the first round of the GHSA playoffs but the Lady Tigers came up short in the best two out of three game series.

In the top of the first inning of game one, Swainsboro jumped out to an early lead. A Berklie Bishop RBI-triple and an Izzy Baird RBI-double put the Lady Tigers up by a score of 2-0. In the bottom half of the first inning, Swainsboro unfortunately committed a couple of errors that led to four unearned runs and allowed Lamar County to take a 4-2 lead.

Swainsboro bounced right back in the top of the second inning when Gracie Beneteau tripled in Kyleigh Hostilo to cut into the Lamar County lead. At the end of two innings of play Lamar County led by a score of 4-3. From that point on, however, the pitchers for both teams settled in and runs were tough to come by. Lamar County added on a run in the bottom of the third inning and went on to win the game by a final score of 5-3.

In game two, Lamar County shut out Swainsboro to win the series and end the season for the Lady Tigers. Lamar County will move on to face Social Circle in round two of the GHSA playoffs.
