Ronnie Womack was recognized Monday, March 22, by Swainsboro-Emanuel County Parks and Recreation Department (SECRD) when their Softball Complex was dedicated and named in his honor. Womack retired as Director of SECRD in 2013 following 38 years of service to Swainsboro and Emanuel County.

SECRD Assistant Director Jerry Lawson reflected on the many contributions Womack has made to the department and community and the influence he has had over the many children who came through the Recreation Department. Lawson commented, “On a personal note, I have had only a few men who had a huge influence in my life…My dad, of course, and Ronnie Womack, Billy Carmichael and Woody Nasworthy.” He added that Womack, along with Carmichael, Nasworthy and Connie Thompson Kight, were synonymous with Swainsboro-Emanuel County Parks and Recreation Department. In closing, Lawson said that Womack’s dedication to the department included his coaching many all-star teams and several state championship teams and it was only fitting that the Softball Complex be forever known as the Ronnie Womack Softball Complex.

Following the presentation, the “Ronnie Womack Softball Complex” sign was unveiled.
In comments following the presentation, Womack called the dedication a humbling experience and said he couldn’t have worked with a better group of people than Billy Carmichael, Woody Nasworthy, Connie Kight and the countless number of kids who worked and played ball at the Recreation Department. He thanked his wife and family for the sacrifices they made during his late nights working at the ball fields. He added it was truly an honor and appreciated all the support from his family, friends and community.

Womack was joined by his wife, Vikki, and family, Ron, Stacy, Cade and Cal Womack and Tyler and Megan Womack, Briley and Kinsley, Cayley and Ben. Also attending were Mayor Charles Schwabe, City Administrator Al Lawson, County Commissioner and Recreation Board Member Jim Sherrod, Recreation Authority Board Member Erma Jenkins, Recreation Department staff, Coach Hank Aldridge and a host of extended family and friends.
