SHS reels in WestPoint

Posted

The SHS Bass Fishing Team traveled to WestPoint Lake in Lagrange on March 19 to participate in their second GHSA state qualifying bass tournament. Eight student anglers were able to attend with the help of the volunteer boat captains Allen McDaniel, Matt Braswell and Patrick Brown, along with Coach Hunter Braswell. The teams in this event were Zachary Raines and Bo Brown, Tyson Gentry and Manuel Bustamante-Ramirez, Savannah Skipper and Callie Powell, Dalton Hopkins and D’Andre Smith. Seven to eight anglers from SHS were able to boat a fish in this tournament. Leading the SHS team was Tyson Gentry and Manuel Bustamante-Ramirez with three fish for 5.11. Dalton Hopkins and D’Andre Smith were also able to bag three fish as well for 3.11. Zachary Raines and Bo Brown were able to score two fish for the day. Savannah Skipper and Callie Powell also joined the plus column boating a fish for the day.  Some of these anglers admitted that this was the first time they had ever been on a boat, on a lake, or even caught a lake fish. Statements like these are the true pay off of sport. Who can say what opportunities may arise from the experience of teamwork and involvement that this sport provides.  So congratulations Team, Fish On!
