Senior Spotlight: King Screws

Posted

Senior defensive back/wide receiver King Screws is a great example of what it’s like to be a complete student-athlete. A leader in the classroom, on the practice field, and especially on Friday nights, Screws sets the bar high for underclassmen learning what it’s all about to be a Swainsboro Tiger.

“I work hard and am dedicated to the sport,” said Screws. “I’m a team player and will do anything to help us succeed.”

That’s one of the first things you notice about Screws. He’s selfless and allows the coaching staff the freedom to put him wherever he is needed to get the job done. He knows his job and he knows his teammates’ jobs, which allows him to be a coach on the field and during practice.

“King is such a great kid, and he represents our program in a way that is nothing but first class,” said head coach Scott Roberts. “He's an honor student, multi-sport athlete, active in FBLA and the Beta Club. He is taking advantage of every opportunity that high school has to offer. On the football field, he is a hard worker and very unselfish. He does everything that is asked of him and we could not be prouder to have him as part of this program.”

Screws is also a competitor and has goals for his team.

“What makes me the most excited is the idea of competing and winning,” said Screws. “I think we have an opportunity to go through the region undefeated again. I get excited at the chance to bring Swainsboro home another state championship and every game brings us one step closer to that dream.”

Those are lofty goals but—undefeated in region and a state championship—but as a senior, Screws has to have that mindset and set that standard if it is to be a possibility. Still, he knows that it’s a step-by-step process and the only game that is important is the next game.

“I am hyped to play Metter,” said King. “Since Coach Garvin has gotten there, the team has improved. I think they will be the most challenging region team that we play, and I hope we show Metter who the real Tigers are.”

Here’s to a great senior season for Screws and accomplishing the championship goals that are shared with all of Tiger Nation.
