Senior Spotlight: Armanie Sims

Senior defensive lineman Armanie Sims isn’t your average football player. Sims is a leader on one of the most dominant and attacking defensive lines in the state and once he flips the switch, he is a tackling machine.

“I’m competitive with a very high motor,” said Sims. “Plus, I just love the game of football.”

Sims helps anchor a defensive front that lives in the offensive backfield and is a terror to block. He is always one quick move from wrapping up an opposing QB and making a game-changing hit. Once he or his teammates light that fire, the energy is hard to contain.

“What I love about our defense is the energy we play with from snap to whistle,” said Sims. “I love when we are dancing and having a good time.”

Swainsboro’s defense is known for penetrating and making loss of yardage plays. When Sims and his “Crew” take over a game, opposing QBs have nowhere to go, which leads to mistakes and turnovers.

“I play every game like it’s my last one,” said Sims. “I treat all games as if I was in the state championship.”

And make no mistake about it, a championship is the goal. Sims and fellow lineman Ka’yun Davis never seem to take a playoff and treat each play as if the game could be decided on that snap. His coach recognizes his commitment and what he brings to the field.

“Armanie is a kid that has bought into everything we're trying to do in this program,” said head coach Scott Roberts. “He's been a staple of our defense for the last 3 years and has done a great job at fullback when we've needed him this year. I am very proud of the way Armanie has grown as a person, as well.”

Sims has taken his game to a new level and when the moment arrives, he could be the player who makes the game-changing tackle to bring the Tigers a championship.
