Sending a warm goodbye to the hummingbirds

Posted

It’s so sad when the hummingbirds leave, but they are packing their bags for the long haul to South America. Emanuel Countians welcomed them to town on March 17, with feeders full of sugar for their beautiful, tiny friends to enjoy. One lady from Swainsboro reported she has used 35 pounds of sugar this summer. Now, as the cold weather approaches, the feeders are beginning to see less action as most of the hummers are getting ready to leave and are expected to travel to their new, warmer destination between October 7 and October 11. However, you should keep your feeders up for two additional weeks for the hungry stragglers because they’re going to need all the energy they can get for their long flight. Until next year, we say goodbye to the hummingbirds.
