Last week, Sen. Billy Hickman (R - Statesboro) received his committee assignments for the 2021 Legislative Session.
“I am honored to have been chosen by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan and the Committee on Assignments to serve as Secretary of the Government Oversight Committee and to serve on other important committees,” said Sen. Hickman. “These assignments afford me the opportunity to positively impact the lives of many Georgians, and I am eager to leverage my experience and expertise to help ensure all legislation that comes before these committees is properly vetted. I look forward to doing my part through the committee process to make Georgia the best it can be for all of its citizens.”
In addition to serving as Secretary of the Government Oversight Committee, Sen. Hickman will also serve as a member of the Retirement, Finance, and Higher Education Committees.
Once a piece of legislation is introduced in the Senate, it is assigned to a committee, depending on its topic. If the committee gives the legislation a “do pass” recommendation, then the proposed law is sent to the Rules Committee for consideration. The appointed chairs will oversee the operation and order of Senate committee meetings, including calling for action on bills, resolutions or other matters assigned to that committee.
The first session of the 156th Georgia General Assembly convened on Jan. 11, 2021, at the Georgia State Capitol.
Sen. Billy Hickman represents the 4th Senate District which includes Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, Evans, and portions of Emanuel and Tattnall Counties. He may be reached at 404.463.1371 or by email at billy.hickman@senate.ga.gov.
