Seedling Garden Club Meets, Holds Auction

On Monday, November 8, the Seedling Garden Club met at the Edenfield House Inn for a fun filled evening as it held its annual auction.

Diana Malone, president, welcomed everyone and opened the meeting by reading The Collect of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. Ann Peebles, Chaplain, gave the devotional titled "Gathering Orchids" taken from the Upper Room.

President Malone presided over short business session. The minutes of last meeting and treasurer's report was dispensed with due to time. The new Yard of the Month sign was discussed and being checked into. Malone thanked all who prepared for and attended the Oleander District Annual Meeting. Stating, "Ya'll are Stars" and gave each one a Star Shaped Snowflake in appreciation for their help. The Oleander District Annual meeting was held in Statesboro on October 19 at the Oak Room of Ogeechee Technical College. Members went the day before to help set up meeting room. Diana Malone, immediate past District Director served as chairman of this event. Seedling Garden Club donated a beautiful filled basket for the raffle and help furnish refreshments for the early coffee session. The meeting was called to order by District Director, Genelda Reese. During the meeting former Oleander District Directors were recognized. Included was Paula Karrh (1979-1981) and Kay Peacock (1999-2001). Eight former Directors were present. Special guest at the meeting was The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. president Peggy Tucker of Hartwell, Georgia. Seedling Served along with five other district clubs as host or this meeting.

Malone was proud to present the club a certificate from The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. stating we had earned the GC G Club Standard of Excellence Award. Other certificates presented to club was certificates of appreciation for contributions made to LeConte Woodmanston Conservation Project, Roadside Beautification, GCG Natural Disasters and GCG Garden Therapy.

After all this the club got their "Jingle" on to enjoy a fun filled auction. Each member brought an auction item and then watched as others bid on them. The Honorable, Judge Bobby Reeves served as auctioneer. Serving as his assistant was his lovely wife, Daisy. He was very entertaining as he kept the bidding going. This is an annual event for the club and the only money making project. Money is used to help with Spring Flower Show and projects it has during the year.

The 21 members and 5 guests present enjoyed a delightful array of finger foods furnished by club members. The large dining table was covered with food. Hostesses for the evening was Nancy Lisenby, Martha Cobb and Diana Malone. Ending the meeting Sally Willingham was welcomed as a new member.
