Seedling Garden Club holds meeting

The Seedling Garden Club held its first 2022 meeting on Monday, January 10, at 5 p.m. in the First Methodist Church social hall. President Diana Malone called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. A special welcome was given to new members, Gail Strickland and Sally Willingham.

The meeting was begun by Chaplain Ann Peebles presenting the devotional titled "Unseen" from the Upper Room devotional. Pointing out that things unseen in our gardens are just important as those we can see.

Secretary Lucille Braswell presented minutes from the last meeting. These were approved as presented. Kay Peacock, treasurer, presented the treasurer's report. This report was approved as presented.

With no unfinished business, the club entertained new business discussion as follows:

• The club voted to make seven donations to different projects of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc.

• Club voted to plant a tree on Georgia Arbor Day, Friday, February 18,. The tree will be planted in memory of beloved member, Linda Lamb, who passed away last November.

• Club voted to purchase GCG raffle tickets. Winner will be drawn at GCG Convention in Macon set for April 12 and April 13.

• President Malone reminded members of upcoming events-dates to remember. She also encouraged members to review publications available to keep in touch with different events taking place. These included, Oleander Leaflets, GCG Board Briefs, GCG Garden Gateways and The National Gardner.

• Several new club projects were discussed along with the Spring Flower Show sponsored by Seedling Garden Club to held April 29-May 1. This will be held in the Fulford Center located at East Georgia College. More details will be coming.

President Malone presented the program for the evening. The program titled "Seed Packet Bingo" was enjoyed as packets of seeds were handed out and everyone was to read instructions for planting etc. on back and compared different plantings for different plants.

Hostesses for the meeting were: Cheryl Goodman and Malone. The 19 members present enjoyed refreshments of pimento cheese sandwiches, chips, pound cake cupcakes, red velvet cupcakes, blueberry cupcakes and bulldog brittle. The serving table was covered with a red cloth with the cutest little white snowbirds dressed in winter attire strutting along the table and sitting on a small garden bench holding a potted plant.

The meeting ended with Judy McWhorter winning the raffle item.

President Malone adjourned the meeting with a club shout "Go Dawgs". This was the night of the Championship game between the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama.
