Seedling Garden Club Celebrates with Year-End Picnic

Posted

On the beautiful Monday, cool evening of May 9, at 5 p.m., members of the Seedling Garden Club met at the home of Nancy Lisenby. The meeting was the End of the Year Picnic celebrating the wonderful year of many events.

Diana Malone, club president, welcomed everyone. Ann Peebles, chaplain, gave the blessing. The 21 members present enjoyed a large assortment of salads and desserts furnished by members. Hostesses Lisenby, Yonna Bailey, Ann Peebles, Ginny Smith and Dot Kirby served a variety of beverages. They used a Spring, Summer motif for serving.

After the meal members gathered for the business session. President Malone presided over the meeting. No minutes were presented due to the absence of Secretary Lucille Braswell. Kay Peacock, treasurer, gave the treasurer's report. It was approved as presented.

Old Business: Everyone was thanked for all the help in making the Spring Flower Show such a success. Members reported on the Emanuel County clean-up day held to help clean the town and county for the Pine Tree Festival. Several members took part in this event. This committee hopes to continue this project with more help from all local people.

New Business: President Malone read thank you notes from several flower show judges that came to judge the Spring Flower Show. Chairman of the evaluation panel of judges reported that the show scored a 95plus. This means the club can apply for a GCG State Award. Suggestions for programs for next year were discussed with many interesting ones brought forward. Sign-up sheets for next year hostesses were passed out.

After the business session the fun began with a gift swap. Each member brought a gift item which was numbered and then numbers drawn for the item to be selected. Many different gifts of garden items were exchanged. This is always a fun way to end the year. The club has had a very productive year with programs, fun club meetings and a very beautiful flower show. All members are very proud to celebrate and express desires to continue next year.

As always, members with perfect attendance are rewarded. This year eight members were rewarded with beautiful hanging baskets. Those with perfect attendance were: Yonna Bailey, Wanda Ellis, Nancy Linsenby, Diana Malone, Judy McWhorter, Kay Peacock, Ann Peebles and Pat Tiller.

To end the great picnic members were given a tour of Nancy's beautiful landscaped back yard. Everyone enjoyed seeing all the blooming plants and yard art that was on display. Members were amazed as they entered the vegetable garden located behind the wooden fence. Raised wooden beds were planted with different plants.

Even though the club will not meet during the summer months, projects will be on going. If any one would like to join an awarding winning, fun, educational club contact a club member. Seedling Garden Club would welcome you as we begin a new year in September.
