Five local teams compete at All-Stars level, one team advances to state

SECRD 10U Football All-Stars named GRPA champions for south region

SECRD’s 10U football team won district. They played on Tuesday, November 16, against Vidalia and defeated the rival team 38-0. The next game was played on Thursday, November 18, against Effingham. The Emanuel County team defeated the rival team 34-18 and advanced on to the 2021 GRPA District 1 Championship. The championship game was played against Thomson-McDuffie County at Effingham County High School on November 20. SECRD’s 10U All-Star football team came out on top once again and qualified for GRPA South Regionals played in Effingham over the recent weekend.

Regional games were played in Effingham County against Ware and Sumter Counties on December 4 and December 5. The 10U football team competed against Ware County on Saturday, December 4, and won the game 19-0. The team cashed in their ticket to the state championship and were named GRPA South Regional Champs after defeating Sumpter County 20-14 on Sunday, December 5. The state championship will be held this Saturday, December 11, in Effingham County. SECRD 10U will compete against the North Regional Champions at 12 p.m. The rival team has not been announced as of Monday but will be released when information is received.

Players for SECRD 10U football team are Chase Banks, Khymmerre Bell, Camaury Bostic, Zi’len Boynton, Banks Burke, Jay Cuyler, Ashton David, Jeffery Davis, Quinton Dukes, Hunter Fullmore, Damos Handsom, Tenojay Harris, Maddux Hendrix, Kalei Hunter, Kyle Johnson, Caleb Jones, Vaiden Kirkland, Jeriahan Miles, Justin Nobles, Chandler Smith, Dylan Steele, Eric Worthen, and Gavin Worthen. Coaches: Hugh Hendrix, Bruce Sutton, Garrett Worthen and Rafael Jordan.

8U and 12U Football Results

The 8U football team played on Monday, November 15, and lost against Thomson-McDuffie, 19-24. Players are Hudson Anderson, Joshua Bedgood, Cornelius Brown, Drake Clements, KJ Coleman, Micah Coxwell, William Devane, Travion Dixon, Cameron Foster, Brenden Hamiel, Moses Harden, Arshad Huston, Brooks Kirkland, Cru’shad Mincey, Christopher Outler, Mathew O’Quinn, Owain Rewis, Brayden Telegen, Malik Vinson, Emery Watson,Ayden Wilkerson. Coaches: Josh Clements, Cornelius Brown, Josh Coxwell and Jessie Anderson.

The 12U Football team competed on Wednesday, November 17, and lost against Dublin-Laurens, 0-51. Players are Johnny Allen, Caiden Bostic, Jamario Carlton, Landon Claxton, Logan Claxton, Gabriel Coleman, Demetrius Cuyler, Kamarion Dukes, Kylin Grant, Dustin Henry, Saquan Huston, Kayden Osborne, Tristian Poole, Demauri Roberts, Kamori Smith, Malcolm Steele, Caden Waston, Ty’Kevius Worthen. Coach: Fred Osborne.

Soccer

SECRD’s 8U co-ed soccer team played in Effingham on Wednesday, November 17, and defeated rival team Lyons 4-0. The following day, Thursday, November 18, the team lost 2-10 against Glennville. Overall, the 8U team placed third out of nine teams. Players are Charlie McNeely, Anna Frye, Nathan Kersey, Lakelan Wilson, Hudson Ware, Brooklyn Lewis, Greyson Gowen, Benton Bishop, Walker Arp, Reese Mcneely, Andrew Matias. Coaches: Jansen Ware, Dean Gowen, Payton Frye.

The 10U co-ed soccer team won by forfeit on Monday, November 15. The team played again on November 18 and lost to Rincon. The final score was 3-9. They placed third out of five teams. Players are Bowen Ware, N’Oreal Pierce, Abby Lewis, Lillian Hudson, Jennifer Hernandez, Christopher Coleman, Jace Henry, Rayleigh Faircloth, Adalee Bell, Luis Lopez, Ansley Frye, and Jonquin McKinney. Coaches: Mitchell Hudson and Brandon Bell.
