You know they say it’s not over until the fat lady sings. Well, the fat lady has her pocketbook in hand and she is standing up! This is the current status of our ruby-throated hummingbirds. We have enjoyed their beauty since March 9, but they are ready to return to Central America and Mexico. If you have been paying attention, most of the males have already left. Next will be the females and later the juveniles. A good rule of thumb is to leave the feeders up through mid-October, and maybe even the end of October, just to catch any of those stragglers that may be coming through.
